How we review AI companion platforms

Our method, stated plainly, and an open door to disagree with it.

Review a platform

A rating is only worth the method behind it. Ours is deliberately narrow: we score what a user can verify, we say where we are unsure, and we publish reader reviews next to our own scores even when they contradict us. Below is the whole of it.

The six criteria we score

Every platform is scored on the same six axes, and readers rate the same six. That is what makes the two comparable, criterion by criterion, on every review page.

Conversation quality — How the conversation holds up over a long session: whether the character stays itself, and whether replies stop being interesting after twenty messages.
Image generation — Image quality, and above all consistency: whether the same character comes back looking like the same person from one generation to the next.
Memory and consistency — What the companion still knows a week later, and whether a detail mentioned once resurfaces on its own.
Value for money — What the paid plan actually buys compared with the free tier, and how fast the included allowance runs out in real use.
Ease of use — How long it takes to get from signing up to a companion you want to talk to, without reading documentation.
Support — Whether a human answers, how quickly, and what happens when you ask to cancel or to delete your data.

What we do not do

No platform can buy a ranking, a score or a place on this site. We have refused paid placement, and we say so here rather than in a footer nobody reads. When a score changes, it is because our testing changed, not because a payout did.

One exception, stated here rather than buried: a platform sometimes reaches our catalogue before we have been able to open it. Its page then says so at the top, carries no criterion scores, and is updated once we have used it. We would rather show a gap than a number we did not measure.

We do earn a commission when a reader signs up through our links, and that funds the testing. It is disclosed on every outbound link and explained in full on our affiliate disclosure.

Why your review matters more than ours

We test each platform for days. You may have lived with one for months, which is exactly where the things we cannot see appear: what the memory does after week three, what happens to billing when you cancel, whether the enthusiasm of the first week survives.

Every review is read by a person before publication. We do not remove a review for being negative, and we do not publish one that looks planted. No account is required and your email, if you leave one, is never displayed.
